Japan has such a rich culture that often comes across in their production through artistic excellence or focused and perfected techniques. We like to use a wide variety of fabrics that were made using different practices from different parts of the world, and on many occasions we will select Japanese fabrics for their whimsical and colourful patterns that can really bring a fabric to life.
Textiles have a long history in Japan - for centuries they were traditionally made for utility and distinctively decorated for beauty. As is the case with so many Japanese arts and production, the history can often tell a lot about the authenticity of the final product, pulling inspiration from techniques and patterns from previous ages, while also incorporating the best recent practices. Regardless of which mill or studio our selected Japanese fabrics are from, we ensure they are of the highest quality, as we do with all our materials and hardware, before using them for Cursor & Thread. We think you’ll see that in our finished product.
